Stress and Fatigue Analysis of Leaf Springs

In this project, I conducted FEA analysis to acquire the stress distribution and endurance of the leaf springs in vehicle's suspension system. Base on the results, I modified the system to avoid the stress concentration and increase the endurance of the structure.

 

• Assemble vehicle's suspension system in NX.

• Simplify the system and mesh the leaf springs in Hypermesh. 

• With loads and constraints applied, the model is imported to Abaqus and the simulation was conducted. 

• Analyze the stress distribution and determine where yield caused by high stress may occur. Conduct the fatigue analysis for the yield areas in Femfat.

• Add fillets to sharp edges to avoid stress concentration, thereby decreasing the maximum stress and increasing the endurance of the system

          Step1:NX Modeling

Assemble vehicle's suspension system in NX.

                                             Step2: Hypermesh Modeling

Mesh the leaf springs, and then apply loads and boundary conditions to the component. Export inp.file to Abaqus simulation.

                             Step3: Stress Analysis, Fatigue Analysis and Modification

Analyze the stress distribution and determine where yield caused by high stress may occur. Conduct the fatigue analysis for the yield areas in Femfat.Add fillets to sharp edges to avoid stress concentration, thereby decreasing the maximum stress and increasing the endurance of the system
